Air India AI186 took U- Turn for Passenger Safety

On Thursday, June 26, an Air India Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, registered as VT-ALT, took a U-Turn  after a medical emergency on board.

Height: 18.5 meters (60 feet 9 inches)

An Air India flight operating on the Vancouver-Kolkata-Delhi  with 162 passengers and crew, while one onboard passenger suddenly felt seriously ill and the pilot decided to land the aircraft back at the take-off airport.

Data from Radar24 shows the aircraft STD at Kolkata airport, around 5:25 p.m, and STL at Delhi airport 7:45 p.m. after airborne for more than 25 minutes, returned to Kolkata airport at 7:00 p.m and the deplaning the ill passenger the aircraft reschedule it takes off at 8:50 p.m and safely landed at 10:38 p.m without any another incidence.

What is the incident’s main cause?

One passenger is feeling ill after 25 minutes of take-off, as the airline’s first priority is passenger safety, the pilot makes a U-turn. Meanwhile, the cockpit crew told the ground crew to arrange a doctor and ambulance upon meeting after landing. The unwell passenger deplaned, and went for emergency treatment. 

According to the Air India spokesperson, the passenger was not feeling well and therefore the aircraft came back so that the passenger could be provided with medical help.

However, the airline’s first priority is the passenger’s safety and their health.
