Air India Emergency Landing: AI-2455 Diverted to Chennai After Technical Snag — MPs Aboard

On August 10, 2025 the Air India flight coming from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi made an emergency landing in Chennai last night. The airlines said that the reason for this was technical glitch and bad weather. Congress MP KCC Venu Gopal, who was present in the plane, posted on the social platform X and wrote that when the first attempt of emergency landing was made in Chennai, another plane was standing in front. The pilot took the plane back into the air and a safe landing was made in the second attempt.

• Departure & problem: Flight departed Thiruvananthapuram around 8:00 pm local time. Passengers – including several MPs – reported turbulence and the captain later announced a flight signal fault, prompting a diversion to Chennai as a precaution.
  
• Circling & go-around: The aircraft circled Chennai for about two hours. On the first approach the crew performed a go-around; on the second attempt the plane landed safely at Chennai around 10:35 pm.
  
• Passenger account: Congress MP K.C. Venugopal posted on X describing the ordeal as “frighteningly close to tragedy,” alleging that another aircraft was on the runway which forced the aborted landing and praising the pilot’s skill and caution. He has called for a DGCA probe.
• Air India statement: The airline said the diversion was precautionary due to a suspected technical issue and bad weather; it stated the go-around was instructed by Chennai ATC and not caused by another aircraft on the runway. The aircraft will undergo checks and alternative travel arrangements are being made for affected passengers.
