Delta Airlines has collaborated with – Korean Air, TSA, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and other stakeholders to introduce a groundbreaking, International Remote Baggage Screening (IRBS) system for passengers flying from Seoul’s Incheon International Airport (ICN) to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).

This system automates support in baggage transfer, significantly reducing layover time and enhancing the transit experience.

Key Benefits & Insights

Smoother Baggage Handling

Passengers arriving from Seoul on Delta or Korean Air no longer need to retrieve and recheck their luggage at ATL. Instead, bags transfer directly to their connecting flight – similar to domestic connections.

Time Savings

This streamlined process cuts connection times by 20–25 minutes, making international transfers significantly faster and less stressful.

How Delta Airlines Works for scanning

At Incheon (ICN), checked luggage undergoes X-ray scanning, and the images are securely sent to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for examination while the flight is en route. When the baggage arrives, it has already been pre-screened and directed, which removes the necessity for reprocessing at ATL.

Part of the “One-Stop Security” Trend

This initiative builds upon Delta’s One-Stop Security baggage policy, previously expanded to routes like London–Atlanta, where luggage is checked through to final destination and some outbound passengers may skip additional security—though ICN–ATL still requires a security recheck.
