Delta Flight DL56: Severe Turbulence Forces Diversion

“Troubles in the skies” 

A Delta flight DL56 from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam experienced significant turbulence. Airbus A330‑900neo onboard with 275 passengers and 13 crew.

The Flight flew over Wyoming at about 37,000ft. The flight face several turbulence, which make abrupt ascending and descending flight about  1,350–2,300 ft in couple of seconds.

The Pilot diverted the flight and landed safely at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) about 1.5–2 hours after departure.

Impact & Response by delta flight

A total 25 people were injured and transported to hospitals- including 18 passengers and 7 crew members.

Delta Airlines arranged a replacement flight from MSP to Amsterdam the same evening.

The FAA is now investigating the incident.

Modern  airlines are designed to safely withstand severe turbulence, but this incident resulted in more injuries than were reported in any one of the last 16 years in the U.S.
