Fort Morgan, Colorado – September 1, 2025 — A horrific mid-air collision of aircraft occurred Sunday morning near Fort Morgan Municipal Airport. Two small planes – a Cessna 172 and an Extra EA-300 – collided while they were attempting to land, resulting in one fatality and three injuries.

What Happened to aircraft
- The incident occurred just before 10:45 a.m., as both were approaching the runway in one direction. Air Traffic Authorities said in the report that the Cessna was on final approach when it was hit by an extra EA-300.
- After the collision, both planes crashed and caught fire – one pilot was killed while three others were injured (two with minor injuries in the Cessna and one more seriously injured from the extra).
- The deceased was identified as a Denver-based female pilot, according to the Morgan County coroner’s office.
Response & Investigation
The emergency service responded, triaged the injured, and secured the area. Both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) conducted investigations to determine the cause of the collision, what the factor was such as pilot action visibility, communication protocols, and mechanical issues.
