On Wednesday, United Airlines grounded flights at US airports due to a technology outage affecting its weight calculation system. the ground stop had originally impacted other major hubs like Chicago, Denver, Houston and San Francisco. The airline says the issue has been resolved and flights are now departing, but about 28% of flights still face delays in the evening.
United Airlines worked to recover after a software glitch grounded all the airlines departing flights across the US. Major United hubs like San Francisco, Denver, Chicago O’Hare were brought to a standstill. It created a ripple. Effect of long delays across the country, including right here in Phoenix.
United says they have fixed this glitch, we are still seeing the aftermath even at this time hours later. The departures for the most part are not as much as for the arrival. Passengers see a lot of oranges on this wall for arrivals.
So a lot of still delays and even cancellations were going on, people arrived here to the airport after either missing their connecting flight or waiting hours.
According to United, the issue was with a system that tracks flight times and the weight and balance of those flights, forcing the airline to ground flights at major hubs including Denver, Newark, Chicago, Houston, and San Francisco.
FAA assists as United Airlines faces massive disruptions
Even after United said they fixed the problem, these delays still continued, leading to some not wanting to take a chance with flying with this airline again. The FAA released a statement saying they’re aware of these delays and are working with United on the situation.
“We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and are working diligently to get everyone to their destinations,” United posted on social media
