Phoenix, August 24, 2025 – A flight from American Airlines en route to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport encountered a fright when a passenger’s electronic device allegedly burned during the flight.

American Airlines Said that all passengers are safe and the crew stuck to standard safety procedures to manage the overheating devices.

Common Causes

These events are frequently associated with lithium- ion batteries, which may heat or produce a short circuit, performing in thermal raw. Airlines around the world apply strict procedures to manage these situation.

In a brief statement, American Airlines said:

“Our crew responded promptly to a customer’s device overheating on board. The aircraft landed safely in Phoenix, and all customers deplaned normally.”

  • Maintain device charging within safe limits (avoid overcharging). 
  • Don’t keep spare lithium batteries in checked baggage.
