Qantas to Replace A380 Superjumbo with A350s on Key Routes — What You Need to Know

Qantas Airways is executing a major line  transformation – retiring its iconic Airbus A380s and replacing them with  modern Airbus A350- 1000s. This strategy accelerates under “ Project Sunrise ” and the broader  international line renewal plan, offering  travelers better effectiveness, comfort, and ultra-long- haul capabilities. 

Key Route Updates & Aircraft Strategy

• Qantas will retire its A380 superjumbo line by around FY 2032. 
• In the meantime, A380s will continue to serve high- capacity routes like Sydney – Dallas and Johannesburg.

Enter the Airbus A350- 1000 

• Starting from FY 2028, Qantas will introduce twelve A350- 1000s to replace A330 domestic and short- haul aircraft. 
• These jetliners will deliver enhanced energy effectiveness and passenger comfort. 

Project Sunrise Ultra – Long- Haul Nonstops 

• In late 2026, Qantas will take delivery of a custom A350- 1000ULR (Ultra Long Range) line designed specifically for continuous ultra-long- haul  flights analogous as Sydney – London and Sydney – New York by Northern Summer 2027. 
• These largely exclusive aircraft point to fresh energy tanks, luxurious cabins, and decoration seating configurations all to onboard travelers for flights reaching nearly 21 hours.
